A new web browser called BlackBird promises to be the best browser for the African American community. Blackbird application makes it easier to find African American related content on the Internet and allows Blacks to interact with other members of the African American community online by sharing stories, news, comments and videos via Blackbird.
A major feature is called Blackbird Grapevine, their social bookmarking service. You need to join the Blackbird Community to shares webpages and articles by submitting them into categories. Then members of the Blackbird Community can Vote Up these webpages and articles. The top webpages and articles are displayed in Most Shared (a button on the Blackbird Browser). To access BlackbirdTV you will need to click on the “Video” link on the Blackbird Services Toolbar. Once you click on the Video button the sidebar opens up with BlackbirdTV channels. Black search prioritizes sites that focus on African-American content and information enabling you to find content that is typically buried in most search engines.
Although there are so many browsers you never heard of, a web browser delivering content by race is a unique concept. Blackbird is operated by 40A, Inc., a company founded by three African American entrepreneurs. Blackbird Partner program will donate 10% of its 2009 revenue to charitable and educational organizations that are serving the African American community.
Blackbird will run on Windows only and does not support Linux-based and Mac-based computers. Its is powered by Mozilla, which also runs the popular Firefox web browser. Download BlackBird browser (Its still beta).
